Prayers for Dennis

UPDATES FOLLOW AT END
.
For those of you who know my older brother, Dennis Neuharth (pictured here with his wife Claire a couple of months ago).

Yesterday, Dennis was riding his bike and was just turning into his driveway when a car hit him. He was thrown into the ditch in front of his house.
.
The good news is that, thank God, Dennis was not killed, being so vulnerable on a bike. It was also good that when Dennis was thrown into the air, he landed in a soft dirt ditch. Dennis is still very fit at age 67 and this should also help him recover.
.
Of course, Dennis did not go on unscathed. Current information from his wife, Claire, is that the doctors have determined that Dennis has a fractured clavicle and fractured ankle bone which aren't expected to need surgery, though he will be wearing a neck brace and a splint type brace around his ankle for a while. He also has a acute shoulder ligament injury and that may require surgery.
.
Dennis will be transferred from ICU to the 5th floor ward this afternoon at the University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. If you would like to send him a get-well card, you can send it to the address below:

Thanks for your prayers for Dennis' healing, strength for Claire, and wisdom for the surgeons who will be repairing his torn shoulder ligament.
We have a lot to thank God for! - Nancy

SEPT 2, 9:45PM, WEDNESDAY: Dennis will have an operation on a newly-discovered-bone-fracture, his upper right arm (yes, he is right-handed). The arm above his elbow was broken in two pieces so they'll be putting in some bionic parts (a steel rod) to help stabilize the arm. Dennis has some real challenges ahead as he also has a broken ankle and torn shoulder ligament, so he won't be able to use crutches. The PTs have some ideas ... not sure if he'll be on all fours like Nebuchadnezzer or what. But I must add that Dennis' sense of humor and unselfish spirit still shine ... Remember my sweet brother in your prayers, okay? Thanks!
.
SEPT 4, THURSDAY EVENING: we talked to Dennis this morning and he told us that he walked down to the end of hospital hall and back on his walking cast that looks more like a boot with a peg under the heel. He hasn't had much pain and is off his IVs now. The doctors say he can go home tonight. Thanks so much for your prayers, we'll keep you posted as we get more news....
.
SEPT 4, FRIDAY MORNING: "It sure was comforting to know that family and friends were praying for Dennis. He is sleeping or trying to this morning as his night was a little bit disturbed, but PTL he is not in pain. He has a boot on his left leg which allows him to put weight on that foot. He has been using the restroom on his own and the only thing for me is to wait on him for the food and help him dress and bathe..." - Claire Neuharth
.
SEPT 6, SABBATH MORNING: It was great talking to Dennis back home in familiar surroundings last night. He is able to get around with a bit of effort but is doing amazingly well considering his multiple injuries (ankle, shoulder, arm, neck). He is amazed that he feels so little pain, however, the injury to one of the disks in Dennis' spine (C-6) is the most It is my prayer that God will surround Dennis' body with a heavenly blanket of healing, that he may experience the peace that covers physical pain ... even in the smallest of areas. What's that text about the sparrow? I remember the song even better, "His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me. I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I'm free..."
