Mountain Birthday Girl

Yesterday, I felt like I was on a trip back in time as on the spur of the moment I joined others up in the San Bernardino mountains near Big Bear Lake for a surprise 60th birthday party for Shereen (Shorter) Hamm. Sadly, my Don stayed behind as he was not feeling well, while I rode up the mountain with Melinda and Don, missing lunch with friends.

Our family first met the Shorter family back in the late 1960's when my late brother Steve Neuharth and Robbie Picard brought our three families together through their friendship (the Picards, Shorters, and Neuharths). It was then that I first met Shereen & her sister Carol (Shorter) Pawluk, Melinda (Wheeler) Vollmer, and Debbie (Picard) Intsiful (busy playing nurse in snowy Chicago).

We did a lot of crazy things together back then and I've never forgotten the fun times we had together and even 40+ years later, the "girls" are still full of a lot of life and laughs. You may notice one picture in the 2nd group of pictures above where Yours Truly is taking a picture in the mirror. I've used this cool technique before, however, this one wasn't planned. You may need to double click on the pictures to see them well enough to find me, see if you can! Oh, and don't forget to watch my amateur video of a friend singing "Turnaround" to Shereen at the end of this blog. - Enjoy and Happy Bday, Shereen!
