Waking Up Laughing

The screen door opened wide as I eagerly toddled inside. I was a little tyke of four or five, returning from my solo adventure of riding sheep bareback on the hills above Napa, California. The sound and sight of the opening door is my first memory of Mom and reminds me of her open hearted love to me throughout my life.
.
Mom loved colors and sunshine. One of her favorite paintings was Thomas Kincaid's "Garden of Promise." I know she loved the vivid colors and the open gate reminded her of that great family reunion.
.
Screen doors, celestial gates and that great gettin'-up morning, I am so grateful and comforted to know that Mom's next conscious moment will be when she sees Jesus, the One she has reflected all these years, and I suspect Mom will wake up laughing!
.
NOTE: The picture above was taken at Ray & Brenna's wedding in 2005. Mom loved to make us happy and would go to just about any length to make life interesting. As you can see, we were whooping it up again!
