Hilliary the Hummer

There's just something very special when friends stop by to visit. Hilliary the Hummer, as I called her, is no exception. Just seeing her sitting on her tiny nest every morning, noon, and night, lifts my spirits. She is a faithful mother and maybe, just maybe, we'll see her babies before they're off on their own

Right now, it's Hilliary and her eggs, sitting in the middle of our front lawn nestled securely in the lamp post, scooting down when the sprinklers go on, buzzing us when we get too close, and sometimes hiding in the nearby Japanese Maple Tree or the just-about-to-burst-into-bloom Crepe Myrtle far away on the other side of the driveway. Just as gardening calms my silly heart, so watching Hilliary warms me and reminds me of many faithful, but one particular mother, mine!

I have learned that curiosity can kill, especially when one grows inpatient and opens a bird house prematurely.  I still shiver to remember when I let curiosity overcome my common sense.  The story,  titled "Curiosity Can...: is in my new book, "The Other Side of the Boat" and it unfolds a story of curosity that turned to deceit, remorse, and finally confession.
